Message from the President

Lucille Kannick

President of HHIBAC

Greetings from the president of the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Alumnae Chapter (HHIBAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc is a public service organization founded on the campus of Howard University by 22 collegiate women on January 13, 1913, to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need. The Founders of Delta Sigma Theta envisioned an organization committed to sisterhood, scholarship, service, and addressing the social issues of the time. Since its founding, Delta Sigma Theta has become one of the preeminent service-based sororities, with more than 300,000 initiated members and over 1,000 chartered chapters worldwide.  We embrace our Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:  Economic Development, Education Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health and Political Awareness and Involvement.

I am excited to be a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and especial a member of HHIBAC. Our Chapter's membership is increasingly growing with talented women from the Lowcountry and beyond. I am so proud of my sisters in this chapter, those who are retired as well of those who are gainfully employed, their service to the community is endless. Since our charter day, February 26, 2012, with 29 members, we have increased our membership to 56 members.  It has increased due to Sorors moving to the area and three Membership Intake Programs.

In February of 2022, we will be celebrating 10 years of our presence in our community through sisterhood, scholarship, and service as we move to the next level of what our mission embodies. We pray that you will be able to share in this celebration.  Our 26th National President Beverly Smith is going to be our keynote speaker.  Further information will be available later.

The Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Alumnae Chapter is situated in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, a popular vacation spot for people around the world.  Our service area includes Hilton Head Island, Bluffton, Hardeeville, Pritchardville, and Okatie.  The schools that we service are Hilton Head Island High, Bluffton High, May River High, Ridgeland Hardeeville High and Hardeeville Elementary School through our Delta Academy, Delta GEMS, Gr8 Mentoring Program and Junior Jazz Camp.  We have two signature events, an Afternoon of Jazz and the Peppermint Jam, in which we raise funds for our programmatic thrust.

Thank you for visiting our website and look for updates for our events, however, you can always donate funds via the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry.
